It’s All About Location

Today’s six-hour aerial survey in Great South Channel – SCOPEX  resulted in sightings of 24 fin whales, 25 humpback whales, 10 minke whales, 2 basking sharks and 8 harbor porpoises. No right whales were observed.

The April 29 aerial survey of Rhode Island Sound by the NEFSC’s aerial survey group resulted in sightings of one fin and 1 minke whale during the just over three-hour flight. No right whales were sighted. Just a week ago, on April 22, the group spotted 35 pilot whales, 5 harbor porpoises, and 1 sei whale. No right whales were seen that day.
